Frances Hsieh
Frances Hsieh, a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina began her violin studies under Dorothy Kitchen of the Duke University String School. Earning degrees in Music and Biology from Duke University, she continued her studies at the Eastman School of Music. There, she received her master’s degree and an Orchestral Studies Diploma performing with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Former teachers include Eric Pritchard, Charles Castleman, Sylvia Rosenberg, Mikail Kopelman, Zvi Zeitlin, and the Ying Quartet. Frances has attended numerous summer music festivals including the Quartet Program, National Repertory Orchestra, National Orchestral Institute, Aspen Music Festival, Musicorda, Colorado Music Festival, and the AIMS Festival in Graz, Austria. As an avid chamber musician, she was a member of the Eastman String Quartet touring though Austria and Italy. She has also performed with symphonies including the North Carolina Symphony, Phoenix Symphony and Richmond Symphony Orchestras. Frances’ favorite activities include hiking, Jivamukti yoga, playing with the Jivamukti Satsang Kirtan Band, and laughing with family and friends.
