Karin Bliznik

Karin Bliznik, from Brockton, Massachusetts is joining the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in her first season as Principal Trumpet. She recently received a Master of Music degree in 2008 from Northwestern University where she studied with Barbara Butler, Charles Geyer, and Christopher Martin. Ms. Bliznik completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Boston University in 2006 where she studied with Terry Everson, and Thomas Rolfs. In the fall of 2004, Ms. Bliznik studied abroad in London, England, at the Royal College of Music, where her teachers included Paul Beniston of the London Philharmonic, and Paul Archibald formerly of the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden. Ms. Bliznik has participated in many music festivals, most recently the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan, and the Spoleto Music Festival. She has spent two summers as a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, and additional summers at the Aspen and Eastern Music Festivals. Other orchestras Ms. Bliznik has had the opportunity to perform with include the London Philharmonic Orchestra on their tour of the United States, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, and the New World Symphony.

Ms. Bliznik enjoys playing many genres of music and has performed at a variety of venues around Chicago this year, most notably the Green Mill Jazz Club and the House of Blues with Kayne West. As for her solo career, Ms. Bliznik was recently invited to premier Voyage VII with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, written by Tokyo Symphony Orchestra composer in residence, Toshio Hosokawa. Also, Ms. Bliznik performed at the Kennedy Center representing Northwestern University this year as part of The Conservatory Project recital series. Finally, in 2007 Ms. Bliznik won First Place both in the Masters Division of the National Trumpet Competition in Washington, D.C, and in the Ensemble Division as a part of the Northwestern Trumpet Ensemble.
